Maureen O'hara..........................From her first appearances on the stage and screen Maureen O'Hara (b. 1920) received attention because of her gorgeous beauty with stunning red-hair and captivating depictions. The actress captivated the audience regardless of whether she was rescued from a gallows in The Hunchback on Notre Dame by Charles Laughton (1939) or was infatuated with Walter Pidgeon beneath a coal-blackened skies (How green was my valley) together with Natalie Wood or matched wits in The Quiet Man with John Wayne. Maureen O'Hara by Aubrey Malone is the first book of its kind to provide a full biography on the screen legend known as Queen of Technicolor. Aubrey Malone uses new information taken from Irish Film Institute notes on the productions, as well as information from old film magazines, newspapers and fan publications to follow the actress as she grows up in Dublin and then reaches the height of her popularity in Hollywood. Malone explores the actresses relationship with her collaborator John Wayne as well as the friendship she shared with John Ford. Malone addresses the controversial issue of whether she was antifeminist or feminist. O'Hara was a film icon during the golden age cinema, yet her preference to keep her privacy private as well as her habit of making public comments which were in opposition to her own personal decisions have left her a mystery. The first biography to reveal the person that was the real woman behind her larger than life image, this book dispels myths and gives a fair review of one of the most well-known stars of cinema.
